Background
At the launch of the new Swedish translation of Paulo Freire’s book Pedagogy of the Oppressed (Trinambal, 2021), Hannes Lundkvist and Per Apelmo, both members of the research group INTRA, were among the audience. The event was well attended, and it was clear that new generations had discovered Freire. One of the panelists present was Jan-Erik Perneman.
For me, Per Apelmo, it became clear in that moment how varied the experiences were of encountering and working in the spirit of Freire. On one hand, Jan Erik was there with nearly 50 years of experience; others had significantly shorter and less tangible encounters.
The question that emerged for Per was: “How do we ensure that the lifelong professional experience that Jan-Erik carries is documented?” This question led to the creation of ”Projekt P Freire”.
The initial result consists of five films in which Jan-Erik plays the central role, accompanied by Hannes Lundkvist and Per Apelmo as dialogue partners. Additional films have since been produced. The films are presented under the main heading ”Befrielsens pedagogik” (en. ”Pedagogy of Liberation”).
